Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax live stream offered to schools to mark COP26

To mark COP26, The Old Vic and The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh are partnering to offer live streams of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax for all schools, as part of their IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK project. 

The performance stars Jamael Westman as the Once-ler, alongside a puppet of the Lorax, controlled by Audrey Brisson, David Ricardo-Pearce and Ben Thrompson; the show is directed by Max Webster. Live streaming from the Old Vic stage, the production is David Greig and Charlie Fink’s Olivier Award-nominated adaptation that transforms the story into a ‘pint-sized’ version to keep young audiences engaged.  

It is suggested that schools book for one of the IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK performances on 1 or 2 November 2021, with schools from Scotland (the host nation of the COP26) particularly encouraged to book. 

Matthew Warchus, The Old Vic’s artistic director, said: ‘We first presented our hugely popular production of Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax back in 2015 and I still regard David Greig’s dazzling adaptation as one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. It’s a hugely entertaining and urgently relevant parable about how all of us, adult and child alike, can play our part in saving the planet.’

David Greig, the artistic director at The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh said: ‘We are delighted to be partners with The Old Vic in bringing Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax to Scottish Schools to coincide with the hosting of COP26 in Glasgow this November. It’s a vital topic and this musical for audiences young and old tells an important story in a charming and accessible way.’

Booking for The Lorax opened this morning (11 October). The recommended viewing age is 6+, and a limited amount of free tickets are available on a first come first served basis.
