Medea is a tragedy like no other. It is a play that is full of emotions, and it just doesn’t hold back. From the very opening, the audience are left questioning not only the motives of every character, but our own responses and understanding as well. The character of Medea is a disturbing one, her near constant bitter destructiveness brings the world around her to its knees. By the end of this scheme of work students will have constructed a well-developed, creative and coherent performance of an extract from Medea. This performance will combine their existing thorough and complex knowledge of performance with a new detailed understanding of the play. The scheme of work will build this knowledge up slowly by looking in depth at the plot of the play, its form and structure and the two key characters of Medea and Jason.
