From 8 - 11 March, Drama & Theatre magazine is hosting School Productions: From Page to Stage, an online conference for drama and music teachers featuring sessions from expert speakers.

The conference will run from 5pm to 7pm each day and will include sessions on everything from choosing and licensing appropriate shows, producing a play during the pandemic, and scheduling rehearsals into a busy school timetable.

On Day 1, Andy Johnson, author, acting coach and director in residence at Hurtwood House, will lead ‘Ready for anything: Covid-safe show ideas’, while on Day 4, Jo Franklin, head of technical Theatre Arts at Guildford School of Acting, will bring delegates ‘Rehearsal and performance: health & safety in times of COVID-19’.

Also on Day 4, David Duthie, course director at The SPACE, will offer guidance on filming shows for exam board moderation and school archives.

Looking to the post-Covid future, sessions will also cover cost-effective scenery and costumes, lighting on a budget, how to empower students in backstage roles, sound design and music licensing, and ticket sales and promotion.

Speakers and workshop leaders include, among others, Tamara von Werthern (performing rights manager at Nick Hern Books), Alex Thomas (head of Drama at Magdalen College School, Oxford), Hilary Statts (Theatre designer at Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama), and Mig Walsh (lighting technician and lighting tutor at Guildford School of Acting).

Each day there will also be an exhibitor slot in which delegates will be introduced to products and services to enhance your work and make productions as stress-free as possible.

The fee to attend the online conference is £99 + VAT per person, which provides access to the 4-day live stream, live Q&A with presenters, opportunities to network with exhibitors and view products and services, and on-demand access to all sessions for up to three months after the event.
