‘Give young people some creative freedom this summer by participating in one of BYMT's life-changing projects.’ Zoë Wanamaker, BYMT Patron

Having spent much of the last year isolated from friends and communal educational activities, young people have the opportunity to make up for the excitement and creativity they missed out on in 2020.

Successful applicants will experience theatre from the inside, work with top industry professionals on a full-scale musical at a professional venue, and gain a Grade 8 Certificate from Trinity College London (TCL).

BYMT has been nurturing young talent for 16 years, with alumni including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Lauren Samuels and many other successful performers who are starring in the acclaimed West End shows (such as Les Misérables, Hamilton, Matilda, The Phantom of the Opera), or acting in TV series or films.

John Gardyne, head of public engagement at TCL, said: ‘I have attended numerous BYMT shows over the years and have never failed to be impressed by the boldness and ambition of the company’s work, and the outstandingly high quality of the performers.

‘I believe that each BYMT course is extremely beneficial for young people in terms of exploring and developing their creative abilities and finding their aspiration for the future.’

Luke Sheppard, director (In The Heights, &Juliet, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4), said: ‘I have worked with BYMT as a director on eight different projects since 2011 and every time I was blown away by the talent of the young people as well as by the development they achieve during the project.

‘They train with theatre professionals like myself and experience the actual full-scale musical theatre work from the inside at a professional level. They come in as teenagers with a dream about musical theatre and come out as young professionals with full understanding and set goals for their future.’
