Fighting the good fight: Frantic Assembly's Ignition project

Earlier this year, Frantic Assembly announced the cancelation of its Ignition programme for young people, citing lack of funding as a huge barrier. Izzie Tyner speaks to the team to find out what we can to do to help

Frantic Assembly are a successful theatre company from the UK, known not only for their stage shows but also for their widely studied methodology in the drama curriculum. Their shows include Things I Know To Be True (2016), Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (2012) and The Unreturning (2018). Despite their success, like a lot of other theatre groups across the UK, they struggle to secure funding.

I was lucky enough to sit down with the very busy artistic director Scott Graham to talk more extensively about the Ignition programme, and how they decided not tp run it this year due to lack of funding. Graham says it was ‘necessary’ not to run ignition in 2024 to make a point that this could be the reality if funding is not secured in the future.
