Arts Emergency scheme encourages creatives to mentor young talent

Arts Emergency has opened up its mentor programming scheme, encouraging creatives to assist future generations by giving them industry connections and 'bridge the gap' for disadvantaged young people.

The project connects young people aged 16 to 18 across England with established mentors in their creative fields who can provide guidance, encouragement and insights into the industry.

Posting about the scheme on X (formerly Twitter), the group said: ‘If you have an hour a month to help disadvantaged young people access careers int he arts and humanities, please sign up to be a volunteer mentor,’ adding: ‘it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do, and it may just help change the status quo!’

Applications for mentors are open until 30 September, with Arts Emergency providing training and support to foster successful mentee relationships.

Endorsing the group, actor Julie Hesmondhalgh said: ‘Our future cultural landscape is in danger of being populated exclusively by the children of the wealthy and well-connected. I love Arts Emergency because it works to bridge this gap. To create the opportunities that have been taken away for the non-wealthy.’
