The performance features two unrehearsed guest actors every night, starring as American poets Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell, meeting each other and experiencing the story for the first time on stage.
It will be performed in Theatro Technis in Camden – a new space for the London-based theatre
Confirmed cast members for the revival include Esh Alladi, Ronke Adekoluejo, Eric Kofi Abrefa and Pepa Duarte.
The Gate’s artistic director Ellen McDougall said: ‘For those graduates who have missed out on a showcase and entered an industry that is completely decimated, for them to have an opportunity to work with an actor who is a bit more established and knows their way around a bit, my hope is the legacy of their performances will be a bit of a foothold or at least a contact with somebody to help it feel a bit less daunting.
‘The impact on emerging artists and under-represented artists was totally devastating, and we were very aware of those graduating classes not having that performance. This felt like a nice opportunity for them to do that.’
Greig, who performed in the piece in 2019, said: ‘Dear Elizabeth was a thrilling theatrical experience, both to participate in and to watch the other performances. It was a heady cocktail of memory, poetry, surprise encounter, desire, longing, delicious playfulness and searing heartbreak. A love letter to love letters.’
The new venue is fully accessible and allows for social distancing, which will be in place for all performances.
