Entries open for British Theatre Challenge 2021

From 1 November, entries are open for the British Theatre Challenge 2021, an annual playwriting competition launched by Sky Blue Theatre Company in 2011. The closing date is 30 March 2021 and five plays will be announced as the winners in July.

The winning plays will be given a week’s performance at London’s Jack Studio Theatre, with live-streaming if Covid-19 restrictions still apply, developed by professional directors and performed by professional actors.

They will also be given written assessments by theatre professionals, considered for publication by the company’s partnered publishers, and filmed in performance by Mini Mammoth Films. Between 2011 and 2020, over 50 winning plays have been given offers of publication as a result of the competition.

Open to all nationalities, submitted plays must be written in English and unpublished for the duration of the competition. They must be written for the stage for more than one actor with a running time no more than 30 minutes. Entries cost £16 per play and multiple plays can be submitted.

To enter, an online form must be completed before the play is submitted via email.
