Directed by Tommo Fowler, I Wish To Die Singing - Voices From The Armenian Genocide, had its world premiere in 2015, commemorating the centenary of the deportations that began the genocide of 1915. It was awarded the Best Play of the Year Award in the UK Studio Theatre Awards 2016.
The play follows the journey of several characters and includes eye-witness reportage, images, music, poetry from Armenia’s greatest poets, and verbatim survivors testimonies. The genocide of 1915-16 was perpetrated by the Ottoman Turkish Government against the Armenians, a Christian minority in a Muslim state, and led to up to one and a half million deaths.
Running for 1hr 40mins, the full play is available to watch on Finborough Theatre’s YouTube channel here. It will simultaneously be available with subtitles on Scenesaver.
The #FinboroughForFree initiative sees the theatre release a new play each month for free for as long as they can during the enforced closure.
