Jodie Comer assures young people that drama school isn’t the only career path

‘I would like to say to any kids who haven’t been to drama school, who can’t afford to go to drama school, who have been rejected from drama school: don’t let anyone tell you that it isn’t possible,' says Comer.

Speaking at the Olivier Awards, actress Jodie Comer has urged young people not to be deterred from a career in acting if they have not trained at drama school.

At the awards, Comer won Best Actress for her role in Prima Facie at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Accepting the award, Comer said ‘I would like to say to any kids who haven’t been to drama school, who can’t afford to go to drama school, who have been rejected from drama school: don’t let anyone tell you that it isn’t possible.’

Speaking to the press, Comer said that the creative team behind Prima Facie had not viewed the fact she had not trained formally at drama school as a ‘hindrance’, despite the across being told that her lack of training was an issue. ‘It was so nice to be met with that kindness and patience’, states Comer, outlining that producer James Bierman and writer Suzie Miller offered their assistance if needed.
