This year, LAMDA brought its first show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 163 years, premiering with Sondheim’s Into the Woods.
‘We are already talking about what to do next year’, said the school’s principal and chief executive, Mark O’Thomas.
A number of drama schools routinely present at the fringe, for example the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is in its 18th year of doing so.
When asked about why LAMDA has not taken trips up in previous years, O’Thomas said: ‘Taking shows to Edinburgh is inherently difficult for drama schools to do, partly because of the tight schedules that we work around all year and it is unusual to have a musical theatre course that is actually 12 or 18 months, which gives you the summer to work on something – lots of students are graduating or finishing their course in June, July.
