Mountview Exams have this week announced the launch of a groundbreaking new Group Musical Theatre Syllabus that offers increased flexibility in performance assessment

The new syllabus, which is available across the UK and internationally, has been endorsed by British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT) – a partnership that will be marked with all BYMT productions in the 2025 season being examined under the new assessment criteria.
Building on their established Solo Musical Theatre Syllabus, the new offering accommodates the assessment of group performances and individual achievements within an ensemble setting. It will offer two options: a ‘group performance qualification’ – which assesses the collective work of the performers – and ‘individual within a group performance qualification’ – which recognises one candidate’s contribution within a group, awarding bespoke marks.
In order to achieve maximum inclusivity and accessibility, performances can be assessed in multiple settings, including classwork collections, full musical productions and showcases with multiple performance groups.
Of the syllabus and partnership, BYMT Artistic Director Emily Gray said: ‘We are delighted to be partnering with Mountview on their brand new Group Musical Theatre exams; these celebrate our shared ethos of recognising the creativity of young people whilst assessing their collaborative performance skills. It feels refreshing to have a syllabus that reflects the contemporary state of musical theatre and challenges our young performers on how their individual journey contributes to the success of the whole production.’
Mountview Exams can be taken at Mountview Peckham or at any private venue, in the UK or internationally, provided minimum daily requirements are met.
