Following the successful tour to secondary schools last year that reached almost 7,000 students, the National Theatre has today announced the return of Evan Placey’s radical reimagining of Jekyll & Hyde.

Directed by Kirsty Housley, the play mixes Victorian England with the modern day to explore the topic of repressed female voices, and how that is still relevant today.

The tour will commence in January 2024 and will visit 12 Theatre Nation Partnership areas across England including Doncaster, Leicester, North Devon, Outer East London, South Essex, Peterborough, Rochdale and more.

The schools’ tour forms part of the NT’s focus to grow and sustain new audiences for live theatre across England and create more opportunities for communities to engage in the arts.

This news was announced by Rufus Norris alongside the confirmation that he will be stepping down from the role of artistic director at the NT when his second term concludes in 2025.

Speaking at today’s announcements Norris said: ‘I am enormously proud to be part of the diverse, thriving, creative hub the National Theatre is today and I am fully committed to steering the course over the next two years.’
