All tickets at the 250-seat Purple Door Theatre will be free, subsidised by bar sales, social impact funding, and funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, while the theatre's productions aim to be a platform for championing 'the next generation of talented writers, directors and actors from a diverse spectrum of working-class backgrounds.'

Rather than the traditional Artistic Director role, guiding programming, the theatre aims to build its programme with the work of a community artistic board, with a request for applicants out on https://www.thedoorisopen.co.uk/meet-the-team/

Karl Falconer is General manager at the Purple Door, and has said: 'We’re thrilled to be announcing the planned opening of the new performance space in Liverpool. This will not only provide the UK with an opportunity to recognise and realise the untapped creative potential outside of London, but it will also provide crucial opportunities for people from all backgrounds to achieve beyond antiquated and outdated social constraints.'

Architectural firm Constructive Thinking Studio has designed the venue in a flexible manner with the bar and performance space combined into one area. Hannah Moorhouse, Director and practice manager at Constructive Thinking Studio, said: 'We’ve worked closely on the concept scheme with the Purple Door to deliver a flexible, welcoming performance and social space, which is open to everyone in the heart of the city.'
