Oak Academy Teacher Hub

A multi-faceted web resource with the potential to grow

The Drama content on this site is quite useful if you are stuck for a scheme of work for years 1 to 6. At the time of review, KS3 and Year 9 schemes were not yet fully available.

The content includes practical activities in the form of an interactive quiz and some drama activities that are similar in form to those conducted in a classroom. There are videos with interactive content and Google Slides accompanied by a teacher presenter, as well as worksheets in the form of slides. All can be downloaded or viewed directly online. Video lessons can be easily accessed by students online via Oak Academy Classroom.

The site is quick and easy to navigate with lessons arranged by subject, year group and key stage. The schemes of work are initially presented with a unit title which can be expanded further to view in greater detail, enabling a teacher to see the full content of a lesson via the lesson overview.

Some of the lessons are snappy and engaging. There is some consideration for readers’ varied needs, with a clear font and size as well as colour backgrounds and presenters also reading the text. Key words and objectives are presented early in lessons and revisited throughout the lessons that I reviewed. There are opportunities for students to engage through a quiz, practical drama activities, and to share their work with Oak National (with parental consent). Additionally, the resources are editable which means you can differentiate for your students!

Some of the lessons are too long in duration, after factoring in the time needed for students to complete practical tasks, many diligent students would spend more than an hour on one lesson.

Additionally, some presenters presented for too long before handing a task over to students.

Some of the lessons should be shorter (maybe split into two, giving teachers an option for the length of time that students spend on a lesson dependant on the environment that they are being taught in).

The site is not complete in the subject of Drama, with many schemes of work ‘coming soon’, but this internet resource is a useful tool for teachers, students and schools that is easy to navigate. I look forward to the Drama area becoming fully populated with lessons, as it clearly has a lot of potential.
