Coming to England is the inspiring true story of Baroness Floella Benjamin who travelled from Trinidad to London as part of the Windrush Generation. This scheme explores the story and some of its central themes, with links to History, Geography, English and PSHE and Citizenship, to name but a few.
There are six lessons in this scheme, plus extension opportunities that can be completed as homework or as supplementary lessons. In addition, it can culminate in a whole group performance of the story, making it perfect for a class production.
Learning objectives:
- To know and understand the historical, cultural context behind the story
- To use movement and physicality to explore character and situation
- To use empathy to create scenes that show an awareness of the characters’ experiences
- To explore how mood and atmosphere is created and altered.
