Finding Brecht: How his ideas help in A level exams

We drama teachers think we know all about Brecht and his theories. A bit like Pinter Pauses or Godber’s multi-roling.

We spend time at KS3 and KS4 on Brecht, teaching how he didn’t want audiences to sit passively getting carried away in a story or characters.

We show students how he wanted audiences to think deeply about the political and social issues being presented. We introduce them to his theories like epic theatre andVerfremsdungseffekt.
