Beyond The Canon offers 50 free plays to students

Wednesday, March 3, 2021

Open to ages 13+, the giveaway offers students the opportunity to win a play by an underrepresented playwright.

Podcast series Beyond The Canon: The Writers Room has launched a competition for students to win one of 50 plays by Black, Asian, Latinx, Middle Eastern and POC playwrights.

It has been launched with the aim of giving young people access to a more diverse range of literature.

The plays have been provided by Beyond the Canon’s publishing partners Bloomsbury Methuen Drama, Oberon Books and Playwrights Canada Press. Titles include Girls by Theresa Ikoko, Chef by Sabrina Mahfouz, Blood by Emteaz Hussain, and many more.

Upon entry, students will be able to select their top three book preferences.

Supported by the Arts Council, Beyond The Canon contributes to the ongoing conversation within the Black Lives Matter movement by reinforcing the importance of Black, Asian and POC voices at a time of both decolonisation and reimagining the future of theatre, arts and culture.

Having been founded in 2016 by the founder of Artistic Directors of the Future Simeilia Hodge-Dallaway, Beyond The Canon is now in its second series.

Students can enter the giveaway here. The closing date is 18 March.
