DV8, Lloyd Newson's physical theatre company, has announced its closure in line with Newson’s retirement.

The company, which has been led by Newson for over 35 years, released the news in a statement posted on its website.

The statement read: ‘Dear friends, Lloyd Newson has retired and, consequently, DV8 physical theatre has come to an end.

‘We would like to thank our audiences, friends, presenters, co-commissioners and funders (especially Arts Council England), who have supported DV8’s work since 1986. Most importantly we would like to acknowledge our remarkable artists, technical teams, administrative staff and board members; to whom we will forever be indebted.’

The company’s leading shows include Dead Dreams of Monochrome Men, Enter Achilles, The Cost of Living, and its most recent new work, John, which ran at the National Theatre in 2014.

In 2020 Newson revisited Enter Achilles in a new production with Rambert in Sadler’s Wells, which was also performed at the Adelaide Festival and in Berlin.

The company’s full archive will be available in early 2023, and is currently held at the University of Bristol’s theatre department.
