Going for gold

Drama & Theatre (D&T) and Music Teacher (MT) magazines have announced a joint campaign to celebrate UK teachers who have gone above and beyond during this extraordinary period in educational history

Do you know a music or drama teacher who has shown particular compassion, flair and creativity during the crisis? Is there someone in your organisation who truly deserves a gold star? Whether it’s yourself, your own teacher, or a colleague, we’d love to shout about it on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

Many stories have arisen during the pandemic of people across all sectors doing special things to help people, or to adapt their practices to difficult new circumstances. The inherently collaborative nature of music and drama as disciplines has been particularly affected by the period of enforced isolation we have all undergone, and teachers have faced enormous challenges with no warning at all. The stories of these teachers’ work to keep their students learning, performing, and bringing joy to themselves and others, are uplifting and inspiring, and deserve to be told to as wide an audience as possible. So…

Tagging @MusicTeacherMag or @DramaAndTheatre, tell us in one or two sentences why you or the teacher you are putting forward deserves #GoldStars. Don’t forget the hashtag! Let’s get those teachers recognised publicly for being brilliant despite all the odds.

PLUS If you follow up on your post with an email to goldstars@markallengroup.com, your Gold Star teacher could be shortlisted for an award to recognise them.

Attach a supporting statement of no more than 500 words telling us everything we need to know about the inspiring work you are nominating. You may include links and photos, or just a written statement, and please also include your contact details in case your nomination is shortlisted.

The #GoldStars award will be given at a glitzy London ceremony next March, as part of the Music & Drama Education Awards 2021.
