Dropping Marmalade, a new comedy series created and filmed by Youth Theatre actors in lockdown, premieres on YouTube on Saturday 1st August

Members of the National Youth Theatre, Stage Box Kids and Chichester Festival Youth Theatre present the pilot episode of Dropping Marmalade, an intimate and funny exploration of middle-class village life in the South of England.

A company of actors aged 16 – 20 present Dropping Marmalade, an original and captivating comedy series about village life, written by Daisy Roe and filmed in lockdown, premiering on YouTube on Saturday 1st August at 7pm and free to watch.

When Carol is elected Chair of the Parish Council of the quaint English village, Little Pecker, in the spring of 2020, her first move is to set up a local website for the residents. It rapidly becomes a vlogging outlet to air grievances, share opinions and events, and tell stories from lockdown.

Rumours and hidden truths come to light as the villagers discover that the camera never lies. How long until the residents can no longer live side by side in lockdown? Who will crack first and show the village their true colours?

Dropping Marmalade’s creator Daisy Roe is a member of National Youth Theatre and Chichester Festival Youth Theatre; her credits include Crossing Lines (Chichester Festival Theatre, 2019) and Femme (Chichester Festival Theatre, 2020).

Joining her in this collaborative production with singers, dancers, and actors is a talented young cast, whose members include in their CVs, productions such as The Butterfly Lion and The Wizard of Oz (Chichester Festival Theatre, 2019), Love and Information (Chalkpath Theatre Company, 2019), Twelfth Night (Rainbow Shakespeare Company, 2019), and The Turn of the Screw (English National Opera, 2018).

Roe said: ‘We hope that Dropping Marmalade will entertain and inspire audiences, proving that creativity and the arts can flower online until this pandemic eventually (hopefully) ends. It’s about representing relationships through online communication, in a time when keeping connected online has been many people’s only option.’

Dropping Marmalade’s pilot episode Gremlins will be broadcast on the YouTube channel ‘Dropping Marmalade’, on 1 August at 7pm and will then be available on YouTube and Instagram for the foreseeable future.
