The National Theatre has announced that its Let’s Play programme is now free for all state primary schools across the UK. It is designed to empower more teachers to use theatre, drama and creativity to support learning across the curriculum.

The project offers free learning resources and training opportunities for primary teachers, and covers three areas:

  • Let’s Learn addresses using theatre and drama to support learning
  • Let’s Perform targets creating performances in schools
  • Let’s Watch uses the National Theatre Primary Collection to help teachers and students watch high-quality theatre productions with related resources.

The free resources include lesson plans and short films for learning about careers in the theatre industry, creative learning resources and toolkits to support the delivery of the curriculum, and tips from professionals to support theatre making in primary schools.

In addition to these resources, Let’s Play now also offers free online and in-person CPD sessions to help teachers reconnect with their creativity and develop new skills. The upcoming sessions are:

  • 13 October: Let’s Perform - Theatre Making with Primary Age Children
  • 19 October: Storytelling in the Primary Classroom
  • 16 November: Creating an Immersive Classroom
