A free webinar run by Digital Theatre on 21 April will mark the launch of the collection.

From 21 April, schools, universities and educational institutions across the world will be able to access a curated selection of over 400 historical documents surrounding the life and work of Augusto Boal.

Coined the Boal Collection, the new offering has been made exclusively for education institutions; its documents will contain previously unpublished play texts, letters, videos and photographs on the work and teachings of major theatrical innovator.

Augusto Boal was a Brazilian theatre practitioner, drama theorist, political activist and founder of the Theatre of the Oppressed movement. The materials have been carefully selected by his wife and son, Cecilia and Julian Boal.

The project has been created in partnership with People's Palace Projects (PPP), an arts research centre at Queen Mary University of London.

DT+'s head of higher education and Boal’s editor and publisher of his books in English, Talia Rodgers, will also present a new series of e-learning videos which incorporate audio-visual materials from the Boal Collection.

Talia Rodgers said: ‘Boal’s vision and inspirational teachings are well documented, particularly through his books, but the genesis and history of his work are less well known.

‘We’re excited to be collaborating with his family and with PPP to disseminate crucial and previously unseen materials which illuminate his exhilarating theatrical leadership, in the digital environment. They will undoubtedly stimulate future work by the students and practitioners of today.’

To launch the collection, Digital Theatre+ is hosting a free webinar on 21 April that is open to all.
