Five drama summer schools to sign up for in 2024

Whether your students are looking to upskill in the holidays, or if they are just looking for some fun before the next academic year, these opportunities have got you covered.

The summer holidays are the perfect time to practice and perfect your drama skills. This may be on the technical side of things, or for future performers. Below are some options that you can share with your students:

1. Arts Ed Summer School

Arts Ed run 3 summer schools: Musical Theatre, Drama and Filmmaking. Based in London, Arts Ed are offering their slick facilities and expert teachers to provide young people with brilliant training experiences. If opting for the filmmaking course, students will have the change to use high-end equipment to experience live ‘on set’.

2. Youth Cymru’s Project Fio

If you are based in Wales then this one is for you! Between 10 and 29 Aug, Youth Cymru’s summer school is an opportunity for young people aged 13–19 to enjoy a real insight into working in the arts. Find out how things are made for stage and TV, make new friends and learn new skills. With surgeries from companies including National Theatre Wales, Wales Millennium Centre and Welsh National Opera, you’ll learn new skills,techniques and make some great friends.

3. Centre Stage’s Summer Drama

Based in Slemish, Ireland, this residential and non-residential summer course is hosted in a new custom-built venue. Students will spend their days working on creative disciplines in dance, musicals, improvisation,script work and rehearsals.Our previous Summer Drama programmes have had a consistent theme throughout with most children develop in many aspects of their lives such as improving their confidence.

4. Bristol Old Vic Young Company Summer School 

Bristol Old Vic delivers two annual summer schools of musical exploration. Separating ages 11-14 and those aged 7-10, the schools will help those who take part explore their identities, creating a piece o0f drama where they will tell stories through a celebrating of singing, music and movement. At the end of the two weeks, family and friends will be invited to hear your stories and share your joy and youthful exploration of who you are and what connects us through theatre.

5. Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Drama August Summer School

For those aged between 8 and 11, RCS is offering a Drama school that is covering iconic art works across time. Inspired by great works of art, this in-person week-long summer school for young people involves structured imaginative play and drama activities to create a brand-new work, unique to you. Throughout the week, the young people will work towards a short, informal performance which takes place in one of the Royal Conservatoire’s venues on the last afternoon of the course.
