The National Theatre has announced new dates for War Horse. The production, which features elaborate, lifelike puppets, will this year embark on an 18-month UK and Ireland tour from 5 September, touring through to 2026.

The raft of new dates for 2025 will see the production enchant audiences across the British Isles in locations including Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, Liverpool, Bristol, Nottingham, Woking and Milton, in additional to dates and locations already announced. More information and priority booking for these new dates can be found here.

Adapted by Nick Stafford from novel by Michael Morpurgo of the same name, War Horse has been seen by over 8.3 million people worldwide, becoming the most successful play in the history of the National Theatre and winning more than 25 major awards.

The story of Albert and his horse Joey unfolds against the backdrop of the First World War and is brought to life with puppetry by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, which has worked with the production since its premiere in 2007. The upcoming War Horse tour follows the 40th anniversary of the publication of Michael Morpurgo’s novel, which has now sold over 35 million copies globally, and marks 110 years since the start of the First World War.

The 2024-26 tour is co-produced with producer Michael Harrison and production companies Fiery Angel, and Playing Field. Creative development for the tour is being led by original War Horse co-director Tom Morris alongside revival director Katie Henry, and it will feature reimagined designs by Rae Smith and additional music by Adrian Sutton, who composed the production’s original score alongside songmaker John Tams and sound designer Christopher Shutt.
