Behind the University of Central Lancashire, in second place is Guildhall School of Music & Drama, which also ranks fourth in the Music category, with a score of 94.4 overall for drama. This positions Guildhall as the highest ranking UK conservatoire in the 2021 results.

The subject-by-subject rankings are produced through eight different scores added together to total 100. The categories are student-oriented, including satisfaction with teaching, the course and feedback, the student-to-staff ratio, how much the university spends on teaching per student, and how much a student’s academic performance improves over time. Graduate career prospects after 15 months are also taken into consideration.

Making up the rest of the top ten institutions for Drama & dance are the University of Essex (93.8), Lancaster University (93.3), Birmingham City University (92), Manchester Metropolitan University (92), Conservatoire for Dance and Drama (89.6), the University of Glasgow (88.9), Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (88.4), and the University of Sussex (85.1).
