Celebrating 120 years of the Hackney Empire, the theatre's Young Producers Programme will take over The River Stage outside the National Theatre on Southbank between 29 and 31 July.

The young producers, aged between 14 and 21 will showcase a selection of performances, including dance crews Lit Youth, Boy Blue and BAC Beatbox Academy and showcases from Alter Ego and previous years of its Artist Development Programme project.

A Direct Message, this year’s ADP performance, will be shown at the River Stage on 20 August. The show is a piece of musical theatre, created and performed by 45 young artists and creatives between 14 and 19 in twelve days, directed by Yamin Choudury.

Rachel Horowitz, head of Learning and Participation, said: ‘This summer young creatives are leading the way at every step. From showcasing emerging talent on the National Theatre's River Stage programmed by our Young Producers to A Direct Message on our main stage, devised and performed by the ADP 2022 company made up of 45 young artists. The next generation of change makers are coming from HE Creative Futures.’

Recently, Hackney Empire released the results of its 20 years of Creative Futures Impact Report
