New online platform Perform This aims to transform the current drama school audition process with its virtual system.

There is only one application on the platform for students to complete before they apply to as many schools as they wish, and each aspect of the audition process is marked through the system by school panel members.

Schools can make an offer, request a face-to-face recall, a Zoom audition, a rejection or a waiting list space.

The platform is free of charge to all schools that sign up, and there is an £8.99 fee per audition for prospective students, covering the costs of streaming and video storage. If schools are willing to cover £5.99 of the audition fee, then Perform This pledge to remove the fee for applicants.

Karen Bryson MBE, actress, says: ‘Perform This is changing the way performing arts schools can offer their auditions. They have solved the age-old problem of it being too expensive to even apply, allowing those prospective, talented students who can only afford to apply to one or two schools the opportunity to be seen by many more.’

‘The system is free for schools to use, and many auditions are completely free too. Applicants simply fill in one application form and then apply for and complete their auditions through the online platform. Never again should a talented student slip through the net simply because they cannot afford to apply.’

Sarah Double, vice principal at The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) 2009 – 2021, says ‘The creators of Perform This have decades of experience working within the entertainment industry. During my time at ALRA they created many online systems to help us with our student and audition management.

‘Perform This is a platform for schools to showcase what they offer, promote events and give advice to their prospective students through articles and blogs. The system also has ground-breaking software to allow schools to manage their entire audition process from beginning to end. To top it all off, they have launched a new online, remote audition system that they are giving to performing arts schools free of charge.’

Actor Nigel Pivaro says: ‘I urge all performing arts colleges to get on board and in the interest of fairness for all prospective performers from whatever background to access quality training. This will produce dividends by supplying schools with a more diverse interesting and eclectic cohorts of students reflective of the society that will go on to mirror in dramatic and creative productions of the future.’
